The Sisters of Notre Dame will observe the 50th anniversary of their mission in Papua New Guinea with a Mass at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Provincial Center Chapel.

Four nuns from 108 volunteers were chosen on Feb. 27, 1961, as the first Notre Dame missionaries to go to Papua.

Their work has included establishing schools, providing care for those with HIV/AIDS, and teaching adults reading and career skills.
