The Toledo Museum of Art’s display of two rare first-edition copies of the King James Bible has been so popular that the exhibit has been extended four weeks, through Jan. 28.

Teri Sharp, museum spokesman, said a series of lectures about the Bibles has drawn capacity crowds. The exhibit opened Sept. 16 in Gallery 15 and had been slated to end Dec. 31.

The King James Bible was first printed in 1611, and its 400th anniversary has been celebrated around the world. It is the Bible that U.S. presidents from George Washington to Barack Obama used during their swearing-in ceremonies and has introduced numerous common phrases into the English language, including “old as the hills,” “the blind leading the blind,” and “the streets are paved with gold.”
