Diane Gordon lights the tapers on a candleholder representing the seven principles of Kwanzaa during a program at the Padua Center in Toledo. Kwanzaa, observed from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1 each year, is a celebration honoring African-American heritage and culture and culminating in a feast and gift-giving. It was created by Maulana Karenga and was first celebrated in 1966–67. The Padua Center program was Tuesday.
