Two upcoming Toledo-area events related to the Martin Luther King, Jr., national holiday give attention to Islam and Judaism.

Imam Shamsuddin Waheed of the Toledo Masjid of Al-Islam is the speaker at the first forum of the University of Toledo’s Martin Luther King Unity Week, Common Dialog Day, on Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. He will talk about the history of Islam in Toledo. The program will be at Student Union room 2591.

On Friday at 7 p.m., Temple Shomer Emunim, 6453 Sylvania Ave. in Sylvania, will hold a Martin Luther King, Jr., celebration as its Shabbat service. The David Carter Symphonic Choir, the Temple's Kol Zimrah adult choir, soloist Deborah Norin-Kuehn, and the Scott High School Choir will provide music. A dessert reception will follow the service.
