On Tuesday at 7 p.m., the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania will hold their annual peace gathering at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel on their Motherhouse grounds, 6832 Convent Blvd. in Sylvania. The public is invited, and a reception will follow the prayer service.

“This is a service that we distribute to all of our sisters and all our communities,” said Sister Geraldine Nowak. “They'll gather for a shared supper and have this peace prayer.” For the service at the chapel, “we offer folks the opportunity that if they didn’t get to a gathering, they can come to this, and we also offer it as an opportunity for the public.”

The Sylvania Franciscans declared that peacemaking is an initiative they are called to focus on for the next four years, but they have been involved with peacemaking as “an underpinning to being a follower of St. Francis,” Sister Geraldine said, and the Sisters of St. Francis community has had an annual peace gathering “for about the past 15 years.”
