St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated Sunday, and St. Patrick Historic Parish, 120 Avondale Ave., will have its annual 10 a.m. St. Patrick’s Day Mass.

Priests at two other St. Patrick’s parishes in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Toledo also have activities planned for the day.

The Rev. David Tscherne of St. Patrick Parish in Grand Rapids, Ohio, said that his church will have a free community breakfast from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. to celebrate the feast day.

“We remember St. Patrick and what he did for the church, and his witness and the importance of trying to reach out. He did a lot of work with the Irish, of course, and our parish was started for Irish workers who built the canal,” Father Tscherne said.

The Rev. James Halloran of St. Patrick Parish in Bryan said that because St. Patrick’s Day is on a Sunday this year, “We’ll certainly have some extra prayers within the course of Mass.” He also said a corned beef dinner is planned at the church.

St. Patrick’s Day has a family tie for Father Halloran. “I grew up in Toledo,” he said. “My dad was full-blooded Irish. Personally, St. Patrick’s Day was the day you could do no wrong. I prayed report cards came out on that day, but they never did.”
