St. John's hold celebration for installation of Pope Francis

The Rev. Joaquin O. Martinez speaks to students at St. John’s Jesuit High School & Academy during an all-school liturgy to celebrate the installation of Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio as Pope Francis, who is the first pontiff from the Jesuit order. “While [the fact that there were five Jesuit universities that made it into the NCAA basketball tournament] is a very good cause for rejoicing, that’s not necessarily the reason for me to gather you all together for a school liturgy,” Father Martinez joked on Tuesday. “Today’s the feast of St. Joseph. St. Joseph is ... the patron saint of the Society of Jesus. So today’s a very good day to gather together and to give thanks as we celebrate the beginning of the ministry of our brother Jorge Mario Bergoglio, Pope Francis.”
