Compassionate heroes recognized


The MultiFaith Council of NW Ohio will honor eight compassionate people and organizations at the council’s 12th annual multifaith banquet April 28. The council has an initiative for Toledo to be named a Compassionate Community.

Joe Balderas of Sofia Quintero Art and Cultural Center, Wanda Butts of the Josh Project, youth advocate Liz Facey, Community Integration and Training for Employment founder Charlie Johnson, Sara Mattson of Read for Literacy/Creating Young Readers, the Rev. Melissa Micham of Glenwood Lutheran Church and its Giving Store, multifaith and multicultural ambassador John Shousher, and Lisa Strawbridge of UU Kids Care Club and Good Night Bags will join 18 inductees from 2012 in the Heroes of Compassion Gallery.

Tickets for the banquet on April 28 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Franciscan Center at Lourdes University are available at Early bird prices of $20 for adults and $5 for youth can be obtained through Sunday. All registrations should be paid by April 21.
