St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a visit from its bishop, the Rt. Rev. Anthony Michael, today and tomorrow. “The parish began in the Old North End at Mulberry and Huron,” the Rev. Ignatius Warren, pastor of St. Elias, said. It was “founded by immigrants, mostly from Syria and modern-day Lebanon. Over the years, it's grown considerably. It's become the pan-Orthodox church in Toledo; it's multi-ethnic. [St. Elias] is really the story of the immigrant experience in America, and assimilation and finding our way in a new country and building a new home.” St. Elias is now at 4940 Harroun Rd. in Sylvania.

Today at 6 p.m. at the Premier Banquet Complex, 4480 Heatherdowns Blvd., the parish presents a banquet with a keynote address by U.S. District Court Judge Jack Zouhary, who is a member of the congregation. The bishop will also be there. Tickets are $60; call the church office at 419-882-4037 for availability.

On Sunday at 10 a.m., a divine liturgy at St. Elias will take place with Bishop Anthony preaching.
