Sunday night at Olivet Lutheran Church, 5840 Monroe St., in Sylvania was when families joined together to hear Father Melheim speak. On a national tour, making 55 stops in five months around the country, he spent the day at the Olivet Church to teach about the steps that emphasis communicating with friends, relatives, immediate family members as part of a devoted life that focuses on growing together.

“It is a simple five step process that families, couples, or friends can use to have family devotion and it can be applied to whatever your faith can be,” Olivet Pastor Chrysanne Timm said. She assisted in bringing in Father Melheim.

The steps are share a high or low in life, read a part of scripture that relates to one’s sharing, talk about how that scripture relates to that person's experience, pray, and bless.

“Whether it is a family of two or family of 10, if they sit down and do this five step journey each night, they will still be talking together when that two-year old is a teenager, the parents still have a relationship with them,” the pastor said.

The last practice of the night was having pillow fight for the fun of it. Which is a entertaining activity for people to bond through, but also helps with muscle memory, she said.
