    Parishioners of St. Joseph parish marked the anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade ruling that legalized abortion with a somber observance on Sunday in memory of all the unborn children affected by the decision.

    For each year the United States has had legalized abortion, 41 people walked in a procession to the altar during the 10:30 a.m. mass. The rose procession is an annual tradition at the parish as a silent and powerful way to protest the Jan. 22, 1973, Supreme Court decision.

    The procession began with a man, age 41, carrying a single rose to the altar representing the fetuses aborted that year. He was followed by a 40-year-old, a 39-year-old, and on down, until the last single rose was placed in a vase by a pregnant woman.
