Eggs for Easter

If your idea of Easter is more egg-oriented, helicopters will drop a total of more than 100,000 eggs for children age 12 and under at the Church on Strayer, 3000 Strayer Rd., Maumee, and the Church on 53, 1105 County Road 41, Fremont, today at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10:45 a.m. Easter religious services are at 6 p.m. today and 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday at both churches, with the concept of an interview with Jesus on the cross addressing relevant issues of today, said Pastor Tony Scott.

Personal perspectives

An abortion-oriented discussion with a panel composed of one person conceived by rape, a person born from an incestuous conception, and a mother who risked her own life to give birth to her child will be presented Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lenhart Grand Ballroom in Bowen-Thompson Student Union at Bowling Green State University. A question-and-answer session follows. Sponsored by Foundation for Life and Veritas, a Roman Catholic organization at Bowling Green, “Abortion: Difficult Choices” is free and open to the public.

Holocaust witness

Greater Toledo will observe Yom HaShaoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, Thursday, prior to the April 27-28 actual date. Martin Lowenburg, an 86-year-old Holocaust survivor, will speak at Temple Shomer Emunim, 6453 Sylvania Ave., Sylvania, Thursday at 7 p.m. Born in Schenklengsfeld, Germany, Mr. Lowenburgand and his family experienced, among other atrocities, physical beatings, forced labor, restriction to a ghetto, concentration camps, and the loss of family members and friends. The Jewish Federation of Greater Toledo and the Ruth Fajerman Markowicz Holocaust Resource Center of Jewish Federation of Greater Toledo, along with Congregation B'nai Israel, Congregation Etz Chayim, and Temple Shomer Emunim, are the presenters of the free event.

Lourdes Univerisity business instructor and Penta Career Center social studies teacher David Harms is one of seven educators selected to take part in “Walking Witness: Civic Responsibility in the Shadow of the Holocaust,” a Fulbright-Hays Short-Term Group Project Abroad. “Walking Witness” will follow the wartime experiences of six Toledo-area Holocaust surviors in Greece, Hungary, and Poland from June 24 through July 23, and after the journey the group will contribute to the preparation of teaching materials related to the Holocaust and civic responsibilities.

Eldercare program

David Draper, the president of Winebrenner Theological Seminary in Findlay, will talk about his experience of “Walking the Journey of Eldercare” at the Carl Herkimer, M.D., Memorial Lecture on “The Journey of Eldercare … You're Not Alone.” Presented by the ProMedica St. Luke's Hospital Culture and Christian Values Council, the free community forum from 10 a.m. to noon at the hospital auditorium includes other eldercare-related topics.
