Plaque placing

Trinity Episcopal Church in Monroe, Mich., unveils and dedicates a state historical marker today at 11 a.m. in the churchyard at 304 S. Monroe St. Trinity has been at that location 146 years, but it formed in 1831. A fire destroyed its earlier building, and this one was built with local limestone.

This is the 11th marker for Monroe County, and at the ceremony Brian James Egen, the state historic commissioner and the chairman of the Civil War sesquicentennial, will speak, as will Monroe's mayor, Robert E. Clark. The group Fiddlesix will provide music, and Trinity will provide light refreshments and tours of the church.

Lohrmann Lesson

All Evangelical Lutherans in northwest Ohio who attend church Sunday will hear the same sermon, by Marcus Lohrmann, bishop of the Northwest Ohio Synod. While the synod is holding its assembly at the Kalahari resort in Sandusky, Bishop Lohrmann will give the message. The service at the assembly will be available to congregations by livestream. Those without online capability will have a DVD, and, for congregations without projectors, a copy of the sermon has been provided for a reader.

Voice for Yad Vashem

Susanna Kokkonen, a Holocaust scholar from Finland who is known as “a Christian ambassador for the Holocaust,” speaks Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Greater Toledo House of Prayer's 16th floor location in One Seagate Center. She makes the point that, though the tragedy is primarily Jewish, the learning from the Holocaust is universal. Ms. Kokkonen is director of Chrisitan Friends of Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, and she speaks globally about the Holocaust, anti-Semitism, and Israel.

Bacik is back

The Father Jim Bacik Lecture Series returns to Lourdes University and Sylvania Franciscan Village with “Bettting Our Lives on Christ,” Mr. Bacik's address on the theologian Edward Schillebeeckx. The session is Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Franciscan Center, 6832 Convent Blvd. Admission is $10 in advance (go to sylvaniafranciscanvillage.org for a registration link or call 419-824-3515) or $15 at the door.

Abundant education

The 2014 Ohio School of Power and Love convenes Wednesday through May 24 at Abundant Life Ministries, 5025 Glendale Ave. More than 20 area churches and ministries are cosponsoring the touring national school on prophetic and healing evangelism. Thursday through Saturday daytime sessions require registration and cost $80 for all three days, $65 for students, and if registering at the door, the cost is $100. Individual sessions are $25. The evening sessions Wednesday through May 24 at 7 p.m. are free and open to all, but an offering will be collected.

“Cross” Concert
