Wendy’s, 1109 South, inspected Jan. 14. Inconsistent date marking of some food items in walk-in cooler. Follow proper date marking procedure. General clean up of facility is needed. Clean and sweep around equipment and pull equipment from wall to clean build-up. Unused and/or broken equipment stored in facility. Fix broken equipment or remove it. Broken ice scoop with no handle at pop machine. Obtain ice scoop with handle to prevent hand contamination of ice. Deteriorated floor grout. To maintain easily cleanable surface, re-grout flooring tiles throughout kitchen. Obtain shield for light under hood above griddle in back of facility. Inspector: Kurt Susdorf.
Fine Things Bistro, 38 S. St. Clair, inspected Jan. 11. Food handler preparing ready-to-eat food without gloves on; facility had no gloves available. To prevent contamination, ready-to-eat food must be handled with clean, gloved hands. Gloves were made available before any further food preparation continued. Time/temperature control for safety foods stored without required seven-day discard date. Some food items had expired date mark. Monitor dates closely. Repeat violation. Begin proper date marking immediately. Buildup inside ice machine. Clean and sanitize ice machine’s inside surfaces. Repeat violation. Wine bottle stored inside portable ice in the ice machine. To prevent contamination of ice for customer drinks, do not store anything inside this ice. Discard ice that was in contact with the bottle. Boxes of cups and containers stored on basement floor rather than at least six inches off the floor. Paint cans cannot be used as shelving. Repeat violation. Inspector: Kelly Cipiti.
Jeannie’s Riverview Cafe, 1 Government Center, inspected Jan. 14. No date marks on cole slaw. Discard batches of cole slaw containers that are individually portioned. Mark each container with a date mark if batches are not made daily. Dark build-up present in the self-service ice dispensing chute. Clean and sanitize according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Grumpy’s Deli, 34 S. Huron, inspected Jan. 14. Dish machine not dispensing sanitizer. Call for service. Tomato soup was holding between 120 and 129 degrees in the soup well at the front counter. To prevent bacteria growth, maintain hot holding at 135 degrees or above. Soup reheated on stove to proper temperature. Inspector: Cipiti.
Rave Cinemas Franklin Park 16, 5001 Monroe, inspected Jan. 15. Turkey with date of 1/8 and ham with a date of 12/14, both beyond the maximum seven-day hold for refrigerated, ready-to-eat food. Inspector: Kelly Sattler.
Comfort Inn Westgate, 3560 Secor, inspected Jan. 16. Individual packages of cream cheese sitting out at room temperature at 72 degrees. Cream cheese must be held cold under refrigeration. Cream cheeses discarded. No sanitizer available in food prep areas as required. Apples intended for immediate consumption have stickers still on them, indicating they have not been properly washed. Apples are supposed to be washed at the Ramada Inn next door, which is operated by the same owner. Wet wiping towel out on food counter. Store such towels in sanitizer bucket. A person in charge must be present at all times who is knowledgeable in food safety as it applies to the operation. Because of number of critical violations, it is recommended that food handlers receive a minimum of Food Safety Level 1 certification. Inspector: Sattler.
Toledo Robin Inc. d/b/a Red Robin, 4850 Monroe, inspected Jan. 16. Parmesan cheese sitting out at room temperature at 72 degrees. Cold hold this food at 41 degrees or lower. Cheese discarded. Linguini is 43 degrees and rice is 43 degrees in the drawer cooler beneath prep-top cooler. Adjust or repair cooler to hold at proper level. Replace missing spacer underneath the top drawer to prevent gapn where cold air can escape. Shake mix holding cold in the dispensing freezer at 42 degrees rather than at 41 degrees or lower. Adjust or repair cooler. Jars of wood stain in storage room lack proper labeling with materials’ common names. Inspector: Sattler.
Dunkin Donuts, 2709 W. Central, inspected Jan. 16. Hand sink blocked by speed rack. Keep hand sinks accessible to promote proper hand washing. Corrected. Inspector: Gillian Wilke.
Hilton Toledo, 3100 Glendale, inspected Jan. 16. Found milk and cream cheese on buffet holding at improper temperature. Refrigerate items or store in ice. Danishes on the buffet were not covered or shielded with a sneeze guard. Provide cover or sneeze guard. Found shell eggs at 60 degrees and none of the food protected from the public at the omelet station. Repeat violation. Omelet station never approved by this department and may no longer continue as set up. Area is not properly designed for food preparation. A referral will be made to the fire department regarding cooking without a hood. Inspector: Wilke.
