The Elder-Beerman department store in the Woodville Mall in Northwood will be closed permanently in mid-September, the chain s owner, Bon-Ton Stores Inc., has announced.

The 167,900-square-foot store, one of three anchors in the largely-vacant mall on Woodville Road, was acquired in 2003 by Bon-Ton when it bought the Elder-Beerman chain.

Bon-Ton recently gave the Northwood store a performance review and afterward decided to close the location, which employs 60 workers.

The company, which is headquartereded York, Pa., said the Elder-Beerman store on Secor Road in Toledo is unaffected by the decision and that some of the employees of the Northwood store may be able to transfer there.
