The Andersons makes Fortune 500 list

The Andersons has joined Fortune Magazine's annual list of the 500 biggest companies in the nation.

The Maumee-based firm ranked No. 472 this year, after being No. 517 in 2012. Rankings were released by the magazine Monday.

The Andersons is a publicly traded company whose businesses include agricultural products, auto repair, railroad equipment leasing, and retail merchandise. Its retail stores sell produce, home improvement items, specialty foods, wine, and garden products. It earned $79.5 million last year, on revenue of $5.3 billion.

Debra Crowe, The Andersons' corporate communications manager, said she could not comment Monday on the company's inclusion on the list.

Other Toledo-area businesses in the Fortune 500 include Dana Holding at No. 356, Owens-Illinois at No. 364, and Owens Corning at No. 476. Findlay-based Marathon Petroleum ranks 33rd.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. topped the list, with $469.2 billion in revenue. Energy companies also remained high on the list, with Exxon Mobil Corp. at No. 2 and Chevron Corp. at No. 3.
