BG men at Akron

1/20/2008

Starting lineups:

Akron- Middleton, Dials, Wood, Conyers, Linhart

BG- Clements, Jakubowski, Miller, Knight, Larson

-Akron s up 45-19 at halftime. BG has struggled every way imaginable and you just can t do that at Rhodes Arena where Akron never loses.

-BG is shooting a paltry 30 percent, including 1 of 9 on 3-pointers. Poor shooting nights happen, but you at least have to make some free throws, and the Falcons are just 6 of 12 from the line.

-Akron has great depth. Nine Zips have scored, and that doesn t include starters Nick Dials and Cedrick Middleton who are scoreless.

-Nate Miller leads BG with six points but has struggled at the line (2 of 6)

-Chris Knight has been as active as I ve seen him in a while. He has two blocks and six rebounds, including two on missed free throws by BG. Knight also has five points but has missed badly on all three of his attempts from long range.

-Quade Milum leads Akron with 12 points and threw down a nice alley-oop dunk at the buzzer. I believe Steve McNees had the assist.

-Turnovers --- BG has 11, Akron two

-I found this interesting. Akron has a cheerleading team and a dance team, yet it was the PA announcer who started a Let s Go Zips cheer. Maybe I m just a grumpy sports writer, but I was glad when so few fans followed along.

-There was pyrotechnics during Akron s pregame introductions, which I thought was cool. Rhodes Arena also has a large overhead scoreboard, scoreboards behind each basket, and a high quality sound system. BG has this to look forward to when the convocation center is built. I know some of you love the aura of Anderson Arena, but I m of the opinion that tradition should almost always give way to technology.
