Not Miller's time at Northwestern

6/9/2008

Per various news outlets, George Washington coach Joe McKeown has accepted the head women s basketball coaching position at Northwestern. This of course means Curt Miller, who was a candidate for the job, will be staying at Bowling Green.

I predicted that if offered, Miller would take the job. There are only 11 Big Ten jobs, and even though the one at Northwestern is clearly the least desirable, there are many perks to it. Miller would have gotten a bump in salary and a chance to challenge big-time programs every night. Not to mention, I ve never met someone who didn t enjoy living in Chicago. Don t get me wrong, BG s program looks exceptionally promising with some great underclassmen. But where else can it go? When you ve won four straight conference championships, what else is there to be done? I think Miller realizes that and will continue to look around. At the same time, I think he s being honest when he speaks so highly of BGSU and the Bowling Green community. He loves it here.

For anyone who is criticizing Miller for even thinking about leaving BG, get a clue. This guy has orchestrated some of the best basketball you will ever see at the women s level. If he decides to leave you should offer to help him and his family pack.
