BGSU at OSU men's basketball

11/24/2008

Starting lineups:

OSU-Lighty, Deibler, Lauderdale, Turner, Simmons

BGSU-Larson, Polk, Jakubowski, Moten, Clements

-OSU leads 30-24 at the break. You ll take that if you re BG, although I m not particularly impressed with the way the Falcons are playing. They are really having a hard time getting decent looks against an OSU team that is long everywhere.

-Both teams are shooting 40 percent, and the biggest difference is OSU is 4 of 10 on 3-pointers and BG is 1 of 6. OSU has been very patient against BG s zone and is getting solid looks almost every time down the floor.

-Otis Polk has put together a pretty nice game for BG, playing 17 minutes, scoring six points and grabbing five boards. He also has a block and a steal and has picked up just one foul. He s played good defense on OSU s Dallas Lauderdale, who is a force defensively but terrible scoring around the basket.

-Darryl Clements and Nate Miller lead BG with seven points each. Miller started attacking the bucket late in the half and had success doing it. He flung a floater over top 7-footer B.J. Mullens for a nice bucket. If Miller is going to keep penetrating he s gonna have to hit some free throws. Right now he s 1 of 4.

-BG, despite being disadvantaged in size, is rebounding the Bucks 18-15. I once heard that if you can consistently out-rebound a team you ll eventually beat them. But BG is gonna have to start getting better looks offensively to have a chance here.

-Joe Jakubowski has handled OSU s press very well. JJ has four assists and one turnover and added a couple of steals. Backup guard Dee Brown has played five minutes, turning the ball over once.

-Miller and Chris Knight didn t start again. Miller has logged 15 minutes, which is about what you d expect. But Knight has played a total of four after playing just 13 against Wayne State. ForwardErik Marschall has been on the floor for eight.

-OSU freshman William Buford, a Toledo Libbey graduate, has two points on a pair of throws. I was speaking to a member of the OSU media who thinks Buford is excellent based on the season opener against Delaware State and an exhibition against Walsh.
