HONORS

JENIFER KERNAHAN of Bowling Green State University was named the Mid-American Conference West Division softball player of the week. Kernahan, who is from Perrysburg, hit .571 (4-for-7) last weekend in a three-game series against Central Michigan. She went 3-for-3 with two doubles in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday. The Falcons (29-27, 13-11) open MAC Tournament play Thursday against Western Michigan in Akron.

Toledo catcher DAN RUTH has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division baseball player of the week.

The junior from Galion, Ohio, hit .667 (8-for-12) with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored as the Rockets won a three-game series at Buffalo. Ruth opened the series with a 3-for-4 performance, including a home run, and closed it with another 3-for-4 outing with two walks. He raised his batting average 47 points to .359.

DAN PEACE, who played for the Team Toledo IceDiggers last season, has committed to play hockey at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Peace, an Ann Arbor native who was the IceDiggers captain, had nine goals, a team-high 25 assists and 113 penalty minutes in 54 games.
