1995-Denis Pankratov of Russia breaks a 9-year-old world record in the men's 100-meter butterfly at the European swimming championships in Vienna in 52.32 seconds.

1996-Morocco's Salah Hissou breaks the 10,000-meter record, finishing in 26 minutes, 38.08 seconds in the Van Damme Memorial in Belgium. Hissou cuts 5.45 seconds off the mark set by Ethiopia's Haile Gebrselassie in 1995.
