Burton Beerman, a professor of composition in Bowling Green State University's college of musical arts, has received an Individual Excellence award from the Ohio Arts Council.

Professor Beerman is also director of the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music at BGSU.

His $5,000 award, in the music composition category, recognizes two of his works, "Invisible Images," for cello, violin, percussion, and piano, and "Tikvah: Concert of Hope, Enlightenment, and Remembrance," a 90-minute multimedia oratorio with music, dance, and video.

Mary Finger, clerk of council for Oregon, has received the certified municipal clerk designation from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.

She completed the education requirements, has experience in local government, and has attended conferences, meetings, and educational seminars.

Ms. Finger is one of over 120 municipal clerks in the state with the designation.
