Economic development agreement is amended

4/27/2006

Maumee City Council and the Monclova Township trustees both amended the Joint Economic Development Zone agreement they share with Toledo last week.

The change excludes about 14 acres in the township near State Rt. 20A and Coder Road that were rezoned for multifamily housing last year. That made the land unsuitable for inclusion in a business and industrial tax sharing zone.

Monclova Township trustees are sending plans for a new maintenance building back to the drawing board after bids came in much higher than estimated.

Trustees will look over plans to see where the costs can be reduced.

They sought bids for a new 9,800-square-foot building, a fuel dispensing station, and fencing and paving for the township's maintenance facility on Keener Road.

The lowest combined general and mechanical bids were 17.5 percent above the estimated cost, administrator Harold Grim said. The fuel depot was expected to cost $30,000.

The pre-engineered steel storage building was expected to cost about $384,000. Mr. Grim said the township will consider whether a wood frame building will be cheaper.
