Scholarships

12/6/2006

Ben Burkett of St. John's Jesuit has verbally committed to accept a football scholarship offer from Northwestern University.

The 6-foot-4 1/2, 264-pound two-way lineman was named last week to the All-Ohio first-team offense in Division I. He was a three-time first-team selection on the All-City League team, and was twice named to both the All-Blade team and the all-district first team in D-I. This season, he was also named the district's lineman of the year.

Burkett played at the end of his freshman year on the 2003 Titans team which went 10-4 and reached the state playoff semifinals, and also played on 8-3 St. John's squads that made the playoffs the past two seasons. During his career, he started at center, guard and tackle on offense, and at tackle on defense. He was recruited by Wildcats coach Pat Fitzgerald to play either guard or center at Northwestern.
