Perrysburg Township trustees approve new fire station

Perrysburg Township trustees have authorized construction of a fire station for $4.5 million.

The station will be 28,235 square feet and located on the north side of the police station on Lime City Road, just north of the township administration building and current fire station.

The new station will feature:

•1,408 square feet of administrative offices.

•A training area of 1,900 square feet.

•Living quarters of 3,831 square feet.

•A 500-square-foot training hose tower.

•Apparatus bays of 21,096 square feet.

Also, the communications towers will be replaced and the fire department's radio system will be upgraded.

Township administrator John Hrosko said the facility is overdue."It's been a long time coming. We've been working on this project for two and a half years," he said.

The current fire station is about 50 years old, cramped, and outdated, he said.

It was built when fire and EMS squads were voluntary.

The fire station replacement is the first of what township officials hope will be three phases to overhaul facilities.

Phase two would upgrade administration offices. Phase three would tear down the old town hall across the road and add five bays to the maintenance building for road equipment.

"I'm so happy to be where we are [in the project]. I think the citizens of Perrysburg Township deserve something nice," Mr. Hrosko said.

The three trustees approved the new fire station by a unanimous vote last week.

In other action, the trustees authorized soliciting proposals for a township comprehensive plan.

They also approved spending $17,972.50 for more features on a new fire department pumper-rescue truck that is to be delivered in October, $2,944 for a rack to hold radios in the police department, and $3,000 for maintenance supplies.

The trustees awarded a $5,820 contract to Perrysburg Asphalt Ltd. to pave a path from the parking lot of Fire Station 2 on Fort Meigs Road to the ball field.
