Pacesetter Soccer Club nurtured crop of college players
2/20/2008A few years ago they were ponytailed princesses running up and down the immaculate green soccer fields of Sylvania's Pacesetter Park.
Their moms and dads were there cheering them on from the sidelines, next to the prerequisite coolers holding the day's ration of drinks and snacks.
Today the game goes on, but the roster of the Pacesetter club has been broken up. The competition is now on scattered college campuses. Those emerging teenagers are now cool coeds with more sophisticated hairstyles.
Thanks to one proud parent who has kept track of their progress, their accomplishments live on. The years have rolled by, but a number of women athletes who once scurried around the soccer fields have continued their careers in college.
Caitlin Sutter, a freshman from Sylvania Southview, earned a soccer letter from Baldwin-Wallace College. She played fullback in all 20 matches, starting in 15. Baldwin-Wallace was 11-6-3 overall and 5-1-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
She is one of 10 girls from the Pacesetter Soccer Club's 1988-89 age group playing soccer at the collegiate level.

Mary Monaghan, Xavier University, St. Ursula Academy.
Krystin Miller, University of Illinois, St. Ursula Academy.
Ashley Williamson, Ball State University, Perrysburg High School.
Division II: Amanda Bachmayer, University of Findlay, St. Ursula Academy.
Megan Stec, Ferris State, Novi (Mich.) High School
Division III: Amy Bishara, Case Western Reserve University, Maumee Valley Country Day School.
Julia Martin, Ohio Dominican University, Anthony Wayne High School.
Stephanie Moyer, Ohio Dominican University, Sylvania Northview High School.
SWIMMING: Several Toledo-area high school swimmers are off to splash in college natatoriums next fall.
From Whitmer High School, Kimberly Tetuan has committed to swim at the University of Toledo. Her twin sister, Kristen Tetuan, has committed to swim at Bowling Green State University.
Clay High School's Alison Zsigray has committed to swim at Toledo. Bowling Green High School's Katie Womack has committed to swim at Bowling Green.
The roster of area swimmers competing in college this year includes:
Kendall Karchner and Kylie Bombrys are both swimming for the University of Akron and are now sophomores. Kendall swam for Maumee High School and Kylie swam for Notre Dame Academy.
Austin Kosier, from Whitmer, is among the local athletes swimming at Miami University.
