Monclova Township officials plan to convert property the township owns on Salisbury Road to a park with a shelter house, sledding hill, and small parking lot.

The 13-acre parcel is at 7005 Salisbury, between Strayer and Holloway roads, across the street from Brandywine Country Club.

A developer deeded it to the township years ago, township Zoning Administrator Eric Wagner said.

Township trustees have requested a special-use permit for the proposed sledding hill, which would be on an incline that slopes toward Swan Creek. Before trustees can approve their own request, the special- use permit must be approved by the Lucas County Planning Commission and the township's own Zoning Commission, Mr. Wagner said.

The slope would require grading and the removal of dead trees before it could be used for sledding, he added.

So far, Mr. Wagner said, comments from neighbors have all been positive.

"I don't anticipate any public opposition," he said.
