BOWLING GREEN - A new chapter opens today for people who get reading materials from a library on wheels.

The Wood County District Public Library is to unveil its new bookmobile during a ceremony at 9:15 a.m. in the library's parking lot on North Main Street in Bowling Green.

The bookmobile is to remain open to visitors in the parking lot until noon, the library's Children's Place is to offer special story times, and refreshments are to be served.

The bookmobile was paid for by a $95,000 grant and $100,000 raised by the library's foundation board, said Mary Callahan Boone, public relations coordinator for the library.

The bookmobile soon will head out, and introduction ceremonies are slated at three of its most popular stops: at 4 p.m. March 24 in Eastpointe on the Mall in Northwood, at 4 p.m. March 29 in Bradner, and at noon March 30 at the Owens-Illinois headquarters in Levis Commons.

Ahead of those events, library users can take a look around the new bookmobile from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday during the Kiwanis Pancake Day at Bowling Green High School.

Since 1951, the library has offered bookmobile service to Wood County residents and has owned three others.

The current one, purchased in 1986, has logged more than 160,000 miles.
