BOWLING GREEN - Joan Gordon, who served as head of the planning committee for Bowling Green's 175th anniversary and was executive director of the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce, will be inducted into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in a ceremony at the Capitol Theatre in downtown Columbus on Monday.

A former English and journalism teacher at Bowling Green High School, she directed the creation of the Leadership BG program and helping to establish the Bowling Green Community Foundation.

She is to be inducted into the Hall of Fame by Barbara E. Riley, director of the Ohio Department of Aging, and members of the Ohio General Assembly.

In addition to her activities on numerous boards, associations, and commissions, Mrs. Gordon is an award-winning journalist and communicator.

She and 12 other exceptional Ohioans will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Mrs. Gordon joins more than 350 individuals who have been inducted into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame since its inception in 1977.

Other 2010 inductees include educators, researchers, former legislators, community activists, and the late actor/philanthropist Paul Newman.

Native-born Ohioans or individuals who have been state residents for at least 10 years are nominated based on service to others and achievements after age 60, as well as for lifetime achievements that represent positive aging.
