BOWLING GREEN - Teen Central, a teen center in Bowling Green, has received financial support from the Toledo Community Foundation.

A $2,850 grant from the Bill Rowles Youth Foundation Fund has been awarded by the Toledo Community Foundation to the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Foundation.

The grant will be used to staff the Teen Central, which was developed out of a desire to create a positive space in Bowling Green for area teens where they could develop friendships, participate in recreation opportunities, interact with college mentors, and get homework help.

Partners in the project include Bowling Green State University's Office of Service-Learning, which provides volunteers and oversees operation of the facility; United Way, as fiscal agent and supplier of Wood County Americorps volunteers; Bowling Green's Parks and Recreation Department, which provides space and some of the programming; Bowling Green City Schools, which serves as the link between parents, Teen Central, and students, and Children's Resource Center, which provides programming guidance and mental health resources.

Donations have supported the center, and have kept it running, since 2008.

Anyone interested in assisting with the center during the 2010-2011 school year can contact Michelle Grigore, president-elect of the Bowling Green Teen Central advisory board, at mgrigore@bgohio.org or call 419-354-6224.
