Owens volleyball game to raise Komen funds

10/26/2010

Pink frosted cookies, pink volleyball jerseys, and other items will be in the pink at an Owens Community College event this weekend.

The college's volleyball program and Raising Awareness Club are encouraging residents to donate to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure during the Express' home match against Cuyahoga Community College at noon Saturday. Volley for the Cure donations will be used to support Komen's fight against breast cancer.

The match will take place in the Student Health and Activities Center off Oregon Road in Perrysburg Township. Owens representatives will accept donations at the gym entrance. In exchange for donations, tickets will be issued for the chance to win a pink game ball signed by the Express team. All money raised will go directly to Komen for the Cure.

The Express women's volleyball program has a 34-7 overall record and is in first place (8-1) in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.

Since the first fund-raiser in 2008, the team has raised more than $2,300 through "pink-themed" activities.
