Youth baseball camps planned at Owens Community College

1/11/2011

Area baseball players can learn about the fundamentals of the sport during a youth camp hosted by Owens Community College's men's baseball team.

The Express Baseball Youth Camp will include two camp sessions Monday with the 9 a.m.-to-noon session focusing on infield and outfield positions and the 12:30-to-3:30-p.m. session concentrating on pitching and catching skills.

Both will be in the Student Health and Activities Center at Owens on Oregon Road in Perrysburg Township.

Youth ages 7-13 will be divided by age groups and receive individual instruction on baseball skills, including evaluation of each player's hitting, pitching, throwing, and defensive techniques.

Participants will learn about custom exercises for baseball and gain tips on how to improve hitting and pitching.

Parents and coaches are invited to attend the camp to listen and observe at no additional charge.

Participants are encouraged to wear baseball pants or sweats, T-shirts, and tennis/cross training shoes and should bring their own baseball glove, bat, helmet, and catcher's equipment.

Camp fee for each session is $45 per player or $80 per player for both sessions.

To register, call 567-661-7936 or visit owens.edu/athletics.

The Owens men's baseball program finished the 2010 season with a 35-20 overall record and in third place in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.

The Express lost to Vincennes University in the NJCAA Region XII Baseball Championships.
