Perrysburg to shift start times next school year
4/13/2011The Perrysburg school district plans to shift start times for the next school year, with elementary classes starting 15 minutes later and classes in the secondary grades starting 20 minutes later.
Start times will switch to 8 a.m. from 7:40 at the high school, to 7:45 a.m. from 7:25 at the junior high, and to 9 a.m. from 8:45 at elementaries.
Perrysburg will work with St. Rose and other affected schools, officials said, noting there will be no impact on Penta Career Center's start times.
Superintendent Tom Hosler said, "All the brain research shows that a later start time--especially at the secondary level--will improve student learning."
The district has received positive comments from parents about the change, officials said.
Transportation Supervisor Ellen Moser has been revising the transportation schedule. Later start times could cost not more than $3,000, and possibly could not cost any additional money, depending on bus route schedules.
