Whitehouse arts board to sponsor juried show June 11

A juried art show and sale, sponsored by the newly formed Whitehouse Arts Advisory Board, will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 11 in the Pythian Castle, 6761 Providence St.

Eight artists were selected by the arts group’s executive board members, based on their diversity and workmanship. Artists include: Kate Argow, jewelry and apparel; Molly Corfman, photography; Ruth Summers,collage; Laurie Dembicki, felted fiber purses; Sandy Hall, mixed media jewelry; Rick Rickman, wood turnings; Candace Stevens, functional porcelain ceramics, and Christen Largent, metalsmith.

Leo Price, executive board member, will demonstrate his artistic techniques under a tent next to the Pythian Castle and will be making a large tiger sculpture out of clay.

This marks the first art show sponsored by the Whitehouse Arts Advisory Board. The board is planning additional shows and workshops for local residents.

The board’s purpose is “to promote Arts in the Village of Whitehouse through awareness, appreciation, education and support; creating a connection between artists and audiences to enrich the quality of life for all.”

In addition, the Whitehouse Arts Advisory Board is sponsoring an art bike contest in conjunction with the annual Cherry Fest parade at 1 p.m. June 11. Entries must be roadworthy.

Employees from Cycle Werks, a local bike shop, will offer free help with decorating bikes from noon to 4 p.m. June 8.

The Cherry Fest is June 10 and 11 in downtown Whitehouse, featuring food, family fun, and entertainment.

There will be more than 15 large amusement rides, a chicken barbecue, fresh cherry pie, a 5K race, car show, parade, a beer and wine garden, and a grand finale with fireworks.
