Perrysburg to set aside money in rainy-day fund

Now that Perrysburg's general fund is debt-free, the city plans to set aside money in a rainy-day fund, city Finance Director Dave Creps said. The city will earmark $900,000 from its estimated $20 million budget for the fund.

Last year, the city paid off the last $3.3 million of debt from its general fund, which led the way for Perrysburg City Council last week to approve the first reading of a measure to create the fund.

Over the years, the city's population and tax base have grown but the cost of city operations has remained about the same, Mr. Creps said, adding that the city has 156 employees, only 3 more than in 2008.

Another major plan for the city this year is to start building twin million-gallon water towers at an estimated cost of $5.4 million. The first tower is to go behind the city service building on Roachton Road, and the second will replace a 250,000-gallon tower on Fort Meigs Road.

The city also plans to expand its water treatment plant's capacity to 8 million gallons a day from 5.4 million at a cost of up to $10 million.
