A new supplier and a leftover stockpile have enabled Perrysburg Township to save $11,080 on salt for treating winter roadways, maintenance supervisor Kraig Gottfried said.

He secured 800 tons of salt from Detroit Salt Co. at a bid of $41.90 per ton for this winter, he told officials at a recent township department head meeting. The township has 800 tons of salt from last year in storage after a mild winter, Mr. Gottfried said, filling out the typical 1,600-ton annual budget for roads. Last year, the township paid Cargill $55.75 per ton of salt.
