A 61-acre section of the Blue Creek Conservation Area in Whitehouse is now open for daily use between 7 a.m. and nightfall.
Blue Creek, the former site of limestone quarries and a Toledo prison farm at Waterville-Neapolis and Schadel roads, is one of the Metroparks of the Toledo Area's newest properties. The portion that opened recently features a fishing area and a one-mile trail loop leading to a wetland.
The site on the edge of the Oak Openings region also has glacial grooves and an oak savanna and is home to a wildlife rehabilitation center, a recreation complex, demonstration farm fields, and the district's native-seed nursery.
