Kitchen designers are talking about the hottest trends in kitchens, and they’ve turned up some surprising finds.
Butler’s Pantry
While you may never have a butler like Downton Abbey’s Mr. Carson, a butler’s pantry can make life considerably easier. Think of this as your final stage for prepping a meal before making a grand entrance to your formal dining room. The butler’s pantry is also an ideal place to store serving dishes, or from which to serve beverages and appetizers at a party. Any out of the way space will do: under the stairs, a short hall, or even an alcove. With the proper cabinetry and counters, this lonely little space can become a showstopper.

A white cabinet is just a white cabinet – until you add some oil rubbed bronze hardware and crown molding. Don’t be afraid to mix and match materials and colors. For instance, paint one set of cabinets in a contrasting color from the rest and knock out a portion of the upper doors, replacing them with textured glass.
Go a little crazy with your backsplash, adding glass tiles in your favorite colors, or personalize your kitchen with tiles collected during your travels.
A Place For Everything
Concentrate on the things you use most in your kitchen, and create a space just for them. An appliance garage is a must-have to keep clutter out of site. Add counter space when you need it with pull-out trays that store easily under your counter, and ask your designer for the types of drawers you really need – not just those that come standard. Do you have large kitchen tools you love? Make sure you have an extra-deep drawer to stash them away!
