BLADE WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON - Sen. Mike DeWine (R, Ohio) was treated at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton Monday night for symptoms of pneumonia, according to spokesman Mike Dawson.

Mr. DeWine, 54, was given antibiotics and returned to Washington yesterday for a series of votes in the Senate, Mr. Dawson said.

Last November, after being elected to a second six-year term in the Senate, Mr. DeWine was hospitalized twice over Thanksgiving week for asthma, first at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Virginia and then at Bethesda Naval Medical Center in Maryland. Mr. Dawson said then that Mr. DeWine has suffered from asthma since the age of 25 and takes medication through inhalers.
