Taft appoints panel to study Ohio teaching

COLUMBUS - Gov. Bob Taft yesterday appointed 46 people to a panel that will recommend policies to “ensure a caring, competent teacher for every student in Ohio.”

The northwest Ohio members are Debra Gardner, a teacher at Lincoln Elementary in Tiffin; state Sen. Randy Gardner (R., Bowling Green), no relation to Debra Gardner; state Rep. Jim Hoops (R., Napoleon); John Marshall, a parent from Findlay; Tom Noe, a member of the Ohio Board of Regents; Dr. Sidney Ribeau, president of Bowling Green State University, and Deborah Sacks, a teacher at McTigue Junior High School in Toledo. The Commission on Teaching Success will make recommendations by Dec. 31, 2002.
