2-year registration available to some drivers

1/3/2004

Instead of renewing their license plates annually, Ohioans now may register some vehicles for two years at a time.

A new state law allows passenger cars, motorcycles, mopeds, farm trucks, noncommercial trucks, and motor homes to be registered biennially if motorists pay the fee for both years.

A $5.25 deputy registrar fee also is required, along with payment of two years of permissive taxes, based on the most recent fee chart.

Vehicles that are excluded from biennial registration include commercial trucks, buses, and trailers; church, school, and transit buses; recreational vehicles including ATVs and snowmobiles, and vehicles that are up for a biennial inspection for the following year. Also excluded are placards, temporary tags, and restricted plates.
