Results of 7th, 8th grade writing contest are announced

Perrysburg Jr. High has announced the results of an interscholastic writing competition for seventh and eighth grade students it hosted yesterday.

Called the Power of the Pen Tournament, the contest is unique to Ohio. More than 20 area schools participated, with more than 240 students registered as participants.

•Grade seven school results are: Place One - Timberstone Junior High School, Sylvania; Place Two - St. Joseph School, Sylvania; Place Three - Perrysburg Junior High School; Place Four - St. Rose School, Perrysburg.

•Grade eight school results are: Place One - Perrysburg Junior High; Place Two - Ottawa Hills Junior High; Place Three - Timberstone Junior High; Place Four - Sylvania Arbor Hills Junior High.

•The top four of the 15 individual winners in the grade seven category were: Place One - Erin Owens, of Sylvania Arbor Hills Junior High School, Sylvania; Place Two - Juliet Hudson of St. Rose School, Perrysburg; Place Three - Genna Haidar of Timberstone Junior High School, Sylvania; Place Four - Randy Winski of Fassett Middle School, Oregon

•The top four of the 15 individual winners in the grade eight category were: Place One - Amber Gombash of Pike-Delta-York Middle School, Delta, Ohio; Place Two - Kim Wolf of Perrysburg Junior High; Place Three - Matt Wolf of Eisenhower Middle School, Oregon; Place Four - Bethany Bontrager of Hicksville Middle School, Hicksville, Ohio.

•Best of Round winners in the grade seven category were: Round One - Martha Miller of West Side Montessori, Toledo; Round Two - Megan Headley of Hicksville Middle School; Round Three - Stephen Ouczarzak of Fassett Middle School, Oregon.

•Best of Round winners in the grade eight category were: Round One - Olivia Bullock of Timberstone Junior High; Round Two - Arjun Reddy of Maumee Valley Country Day School; Round Three - Mark Antiporda of St. John's Jesuit High School, Toledo.

Winners will go to the regional tournament to be held in April in Findlay.

State finals will follow in May at the College of Wooster.
