Border patrol recruiters back in Ohio
4/20/2008DAYTON, Ohio The U.S. Border Patrol is back in Ohio looking for recruits.
The patrol sent agents to Dayton, Cleveland, Columbus and four other Ohio cities on Saturday. The effort is part of a federal mandate to increase the number of border patrol agents by 6,000 by the end of the year.
Recruiters were also at job fairs in Youngstown, Toledo, Cincinnati and the Akron area.
Agent J.D. Thompson says Ohio was selected as the first state to conduct a recruiting blitz because it has lost so many manufacturing jobs.
He says recruiters had applications from 500 people after a visit to Cincinnati several months ago. Border Patrol recruiters were also in Columbus in November.
All new federal border patrol agents would likely be assigned to the Mexican border.
