Area gas costs continue slide to March, 07, level

10/28/2008

Gasoline prices continued a historic plunge in the Toledo area over the weekend, dropping as low as $2.159 for self-service, unleaded regular in Bowling Green and into the mid-$2.20s at some Toledo stations.

According to the Web site www.gasbuddy.com, the Toledo average price of $2.363 a gallon for regular gasoline was 27 cents lower than the previous Monday, $1.34 below the Sept. 27 price, and 49.6 cents lower than a year ago.

It is the lowest local average price the site has reported since March, 2007, and is $1.65 a gallon below the $4.01 average reported on Sept. 15, at the peak of a price spike induced by supply fears related to Hurricane Ike.

The precipitous gasoline-price decline has roughly paralleled a worldwide plunge in crude oil prices that has been attributed to economic turmoil and reduced oil consumption in the United States.
