MIDDLETOWN, Ohio An Ohio school district where a teacher's inappropriate relationship with a student was revealed through text messages has now banned texting between students and staff.

The Madison Local school board in southwest Ohio's Butler County voted 3-2 to approve the policy Monday night.

Thirty-two-year-old history teacher and softball coach Jamie Wagner was fired last year after he was charged with two counts of sexual battery. The investigation began when an adult reported that Wagner had been sending inappropriate text messages to a female student.

Wagner was later convicted and sentenced to three years in prison.

The new policy allows school personnel to reach students by school e-mail, phone calls and the district's phone notification system.
