SHIPSHEWANA, Ind. Authorities say a young girl and a 41-year-old woman died in separate drownings over the weekend in northern Indiana s LaGrange County

A state conservation officer says 3-year-old Kennedy Stansbury of Wakarusa had been swimming with family and friends in Cass Lake near Shipshewana when she drowned Saturday afternoon.

Kennedy was not breathing when she was pulled from about 4 feet of water nearly 50 feet from the shore. Officer Todd Lang said CPR was performed on the girl until emergency workers arrived, but she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The other drowning killed Kelly Smith of Wolcottville, who had been playing Saturday at a sandbar with her dog, when she began having trouble swimming and dropped below the surface of Dallas Lake.
