DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. An Ohio girl swimming near the Daytona Beach shore was bitten by a shark on her right foot.

Authorities say the 12-year-old girl was in the water with her father over the weekend and was boogie-boarding when she was bitten. She was treated at the scene and brought by her dad to the hospital with minor injuries. The victim s name was not released.

Officials say she is the sixth shark-bite victim this year in Volusia County, one of the most potent areas in Florida for bites. Wildlife officials say wind patterns this year have brought deeper, colder ocean waters to the surfaces in the area that has led to the shark attacks.
