Hysterical society: Ohio pokes fun at past
3/4/2010COLUMBUS, Ohio — History may be written by the winners but it's being blogged by the comedians.
A daily countdown blog titled "Ohio's Top 10 Embarrassing Moments in History" kicked off Wednesday in honor of the state's 207th birthday. Ohio Historical Society curator Elizabeth Higgins says the group decided to highlight the state's worst blunders and bad ideas rather than sweeping them under the carpet.
The list includes a military blunder, a near national disaster and an infamous prison break.
Not to miss out on the birthday fun, state lawmakers have set up an Ohio's next-top-model contest of sorts. From March 20 to June 12, 36 historical sites and museums will offer ballot boxes to visitors for voting on the next Ohioan to be memorialized in U.S. Statuary Hall in Washington.
