Toledo-born ex-justice Douglas weds in Florida
5/5/2010COLUMBUS - Former Ohio Supreme Court Justice Andy Douglas recently married long-time companion Sue Pohlman in a small, private ceremony in Florida.
"Sue and I married about nine weeks ago, and we're both very happy," said the 77-year-old Toledo native. The ceremony with his former secretary was arranged by the former justice's brother and sister-in-law.
His children were informed afterward.
Mr. Douglas served on the high court from 1985 through 2004 when mandatory retirement age forced him from the bench. He later was executive director of the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association, the largest union representing state employees.
More recently he has worked in private legal practice, and during the fall was a voice in northwest Ohio promoting the successful ballot issue that authorized four Las Vegas-style casinos in the state, including one in Toledo.
