DETROIT — Southern lower Michigan is bracing for its third round of severe weather in less than a week.

Thunderstorm watches and warnings remained in effect for most of the region Wednesday morning as heavy, east-moving thunderstorms entered the southwestern portion of the state.

Forecasts called for heavy rain and wind gusts approaching 80 mph. High temperatures in the mid- to upper-80s were expected.

A storm on Friday blacked out 252,000 utility customers in southern lower Michigan and was responsible for at least one death. A second storm on Tuesday included hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph, and blacked out an additional 34,000 homes and businesses.
